Feedback may occur if the microphone picks up too much audio from the speaker.
There are several ways to combat this, usually a combination is the best solution.
Move the microphone as far away from the loudspeaker as possible, do not point the microphone directly towards the loudspeaker.
Lower the gain supplied to the microphone signal on the mixer and speak louder.
Move the microphone closer to the sound source.
